Uncovered syndicate of human trafficking in Medan, N. Sumatra

A syndicate of human traffickers in Jember district of East Java, Indonesia has been uncovered. The 18-year Samiadi Ningsih, a would-be migrant workers, originating from Puger Kulon village at Puger subdistrict in Jember reported her bad fate as she fled away from being locked up for months at the pre-employment waiting place owned by PT Aula Graha addressed at Jalan Pintu Air, gang Ternak, Medan, North Sumatra.

She said she fled the premise because she ‘could no longer endure tortures she experienced daily there.’

Ningsih said she was transported by a women only she named as Susi, a resident in the neighborhood of Tawang Alun bus station in Jember town.

“It is about each five days that Mrs. Susi deploys a group of would-be migrant workers from Jember carried by bus owned by the transportation company called ALS,” she said.

She said along with her were other two would-be migrant workers departed from Jember to Medan.

Before leaving Jember, Ningsih said her name and address were forged by Haj Ahmad, a resident of Arjasa subdistrict in Jember.

Report says Haj Ahmad is at the moment detained by the East Java police. But local migrant association of GBMI Jember claimed that his wife continued the questioned business in the district.

Ningsih said that 'her name was turned into Karina, aged 26 years old and originates from Arjasa subdistrict.'

She also added that among those involved in the business were ‘two formally clothed officers like those worn by the military’.

‘I do not want that Mrs. Susi sends other girls from Jember. I do not want more victims,” she said.

Mohammad Cholily of the local migrant association of GBMI Jember that represents Ningsih said it planned to file a report the crime to police and the district government’s manpower office.
